Our general guidelines and exclusions apply to all 5 categories. Please study them carefully. Please also look at the list of current beneficiariesas a guide. What follows is a brief explanation of the main focus of our current grant-making in each category and of the themes we particularly favour. Such is the competition for funds that if your work does not match our themes it is unlikely to be funded.
In 2006/07, the Foundation moved to making grants overseas almost entirely within the joint collaboration programme with the Baring Foundation. Along with conservation this is one of the two smallest categories, and reflects the fact that Sir John Ellerman lived partly in South Africa and based much of his philanthropic work there. In 2007/08, a total of 16 different overseas charities received £446,000 between them.
WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING UNSOLICITED APPLICATIONS FOR OVERSEAS
Main Focus
At present our funding has two elements:
• Joint International Programme with the Baring Foundation Almost all our overseas funding allocation now goes towards a joint programme in Africa administered by the Baring Foundation. For details and application guidelines - see www.baringfoundation.org.uk This programme seeks to help refugees and displaced peoples in sub-Saharan Africa.
• South Africa We confine support to charities set up by or closely connected with Sir John Ellerman in and around Cape Town, which we have helped to fund for many years. These are specific charities with which we have a long-established relationship.
